Villa Jolanda

Liberty architecture on the heights above Como

Villa Jolanda occupies an elevated position above the lake, set back from the shore so as to command the view without being exposed by it. The Liberty architecture, wide terraces, and floor to ceiling windows speak of an era when this coastline was chosen by those who regarded beauty as a private matter.

Original floors, period furnishings, and carefully preserved architectural details create a genuinely historic atmosphere. The lake changes with every season. The villa remains itself.

A Story of Architecture, Love, and Ancient Roots

Villa Jolanda

In the heart of Brunate, overlooking one of the most enchanting views of Lake Como, stands Villa Jolanda—a residence that holds over a century of history, art, and family affection. Built between 1910 and 1911 by lawyer Pietro Rebuschini, the villa was designed by the renowned Como-born architect Federico Frigerio, who reinterpreted the style of early 16th-century Lombardy with a unique, expressive touch.

Villa Jolanda is not just a remarkable architectural example—it is also deeply rooted in the historical and cultural fabric of the region. Its park, one of the largest in Brunate, offers a breathtaking view of the lake and reveals traces of a much older past. During excavation works, a Gallic-era funerary urn was discovered on the grounds, now housed in the Civic Museum of Como. This finding confirms the presence of human settlements in the area dating back to pre-Roman times, lending the villa extraordinary historical and archaeological significance.

Inside the villa is a symbolic and fascinating feature: a baptismal font, a faithful replica of the renowned “Urn of Valperto,” a Roman stone artifact preserved in the Archaeological Museum of Milan. This detail adds another layer of meaning to the residence, evoking ancient rituals and traditions.

A new chapter began in 1960 when the villa was lovingly restored by engineer Alessandro Ancona, who transformed it into a gift of love for his wife, Jolanda. Since then, the villa bears her name—a symbol of a deep and lasting union—and remains in the family, who continue to preserve its memory, beauty, and authenticity.

Today, Villa Jolanda is more than a building: it is a living narrative that weaves together epochs, emotions, and discoveries—a testimony to the timeless bond between humanity, nature, and history, suspended between the majesty of the lake and the depth of its roots.
